Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Processor Will Begin Showing Up in Smartphones Soon

According to recent reports, it seems that the first wave of Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 820 processors will begin shipping to manufacturers soon. Companies like Sony, HTC, Xiaomi, and other manufacturers that use Qualcomm’s chips will be the first to receive the new processor to begin the process of fitting the new processor into their upcoming products.

qualcomm011413_figFor the Snapdragon 820, Qualcomm has collaborated with Samsung to utilize the latter’s 14nm process technology. One of the biggest issues of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is its temperature problem which, according to the company, has been resolved with the Snapdragon 820 thanks to Samsung’s 14nm process. The new process will also lead to reduced power consumption.

The new chip will features Qualcomm’s 64 Kyro architecture that runs at stock clocks of 3.0GHz which is a tremendous improvement over current-generation mobile processors. If manufacturers don’t encounter any issues with implementing the new chip into their next-generation devices, we should start seeing new devices as early as this year or early next year.

Qualcomm has not had a good year due to the common heat issues of its Snapdragon 810 processor but, with the help of Samsung, the company may be able to turn things around later this year or next year. According to some sources, Xiaomi is hoping to feature the new Snapdragon 820 processor in their upcoming Mi 5 flagship which the company plans to release later this year.
